well this is a very famous program that was being aired in the ALL India Radio in chennai..and I hope it is still being aired. A program that I used to listen to almost everyday and a program my grandfather used to enjoy. But now things are different. I hardly listen to the radio.. and I hope its the same with everyone..but with so many FM channels being aired the Radio seems to have re-emerged like a Phoenix...
This program was aired in the Chennai AIR every day and was anchored by Tenkathchi Swaminathan.. a man whom many would recogonise only by his voice.. thanks to SUN TV which started airing his program on TV.. this was the fisrt time I saw the face that belogned to the voice I have been listing to for many years... and what I saw was a very simple man indeed.. and just like our normal selves.. without a deceptive long beard and the absence of the typical vibuthi/kungumam on his foreheard
only increased my admiration for this man..

To say more about the man .. he was born and brought up in Tenkatchi and then spent most of his Childhood in and around kumbakoanam. He than started working with the Panchayat board of Palayangottai as an agriculture officer and then returned to his native place to take on agriculture from his father ..
He then landed up in AIR accidentally after he came across an Ad for a person with expericence in agriculture .. jsut like his entry in to the AIR the 'Indro Oru Thagaval' also started quite accidentally.. he was once joking to his friends overa lunch that they could boldly air any program on the AIR as people now harldly listend to the radio.. this comment however was passed on by one of his wellwisher and reached the ears of his superior who called him and told him to speak for 5 mins every day on the radio and develiver a useful messsage to people.. it ws then decided that the program would be hosted by one person every month.. however no one took the responsibility and out man has now been on the job for more than 15 years .. the first show was AIRed on June 1st 1988...
well the program itself.. is a very good one.. Swaminathan sends out a e message every day .'A thought for the day' accompanied by a small anacdote which has a twist to it.. more like the Jeffery Archers twist in a tale.. but this man definitely beas Archer.. in the lenght of the stories.. and he has been giving out one evey a day since 1988. This he does with the help of his friends who lend him books and narrate him incidents they come across.
here is one of his stories ..
'A doctor once went to visit his patient. He was surprised to see that his scooter was stolen when he came out of the house. He then lodged a police complaint and went back home. HOwever he was even more surprised when he found the scooter in the same location the next day. There was a small note with it. IT said- Dear Sir , I know its not right to steal but then it was a case of emergency and I had too see my friend in the hospital. I couldnt avoid stealing your scooter. Please excuse me for this and as a courtesy and apology I have reserved tickets for this new movie for your whole family and the doctor saw 4 tickets enclosed in a cover. The doctor was more than happy and forgave the man and accepted his request and took his famil to the movie. WEll all was fine but then the doctor came back home from the show the house was clean and empty.. the guy who gave him the ticket was a smart thief indeed.'

I used to listen it for a very long time. As I grew up it had a huge impact in my life - it shaped my work ethics and ambitions. Now I am doing my PhD in US and publishing my 6th journal paper - still I think about the dharma-stories he used to say in those days and use in my daily life for the betterment of SELF. Kudos to him.
I wonder whether someone could publish those disclosures as MP3 files. It would be great if All India Radio could facilitate such an operation.
Cheers....

Most treasured moments of my school days too.. His death made me really sad.. Can some one share the mp3 version of this program ?
